INSURANCE &Lactation visit costs
Many lactation visits are covered at 100% by the following plans:
Aetna
Colorado Medicaid
Cigna
For in-home visits, the $50 travel fee is not covered by insurance and is your responsibility.

UnitedHealthcare & UMR — Effective September 1
Due to changes in UnitedHealthcare coverage, lactation services for babies are no longer covered when billed directly to UnitedHealthcare. This change significantly reduces reimbursement for comprehensive lactation care.
Beginning September 1, UnitedHealthcare and UMR clients may continue to schedule in-office or in-home visits; however, appointment times will be shorter than my standard visits.
In-home visits remain available with a $50 travel fee, which is not covered by insurance.
These changes allow me to continue providing high-quality, evidence-based lactation care to UnitedHealthcare and UMR families despite the reduction in coverage.
Kaiser Insurance
I am happy to bill Kaiser for covered lactation services. However, insurance coverage and payment cannot be guaranteed. If Kaiser denies or does not reimburse your visit, you are responsible for the balance at my current self-pay rates.
Please note that travel fees apply for all in-home visits are not covered by insurance and are the responsibility of the client, regardless of insurance coverage.
Card on File Policy: A valid credit card is required prior to all in-home visits and all self-pay office and virtual visits. Your card will only be charged for your patient responsibility, including applicable deductibles, coinsurance, denied insurance claims, travel fees, self-pay balances, or cancellation fees in accordance with our office policies.
Health First Colorado (Medicaid)
Lactation support is a fully covered Health First Colorado benefit. There's no copay, no visit limit, and no prior authorization needed.
Where we can meet: My office, or by telehealth anywhere in Colorado. In-home visits aren't available under Medicaid — the travel fee isn't something I can bill to a Medicaid member, and I'm not permitted to charge you for it directly.
What you'll need first: A recommendation from a licensed provider — yours or your baby's. Either one works. I'll need that provider's name and NPI to submit the claim, so bring it with you or send it ahead when you book.
Telehealth works well for: pumping questions, flange sizing, return-to-work planning, bottle feeding, starting solids, weaning, and follow-ups. For latch problems or weight-gain concerns, an in-person visit is better — I can weigh your baby before and after a feed, which isn't possible virtually.
Self-Pay Rates
Don't have one of the insurance plans listed above? You are still welcome to schedule care.
Prenatal Lactation Consultation — $150
Private prenatal breastfeeding preparation and individualized feeding planning.
Initial Lactation Visit — $200
Comprehensive lactation assessment and personalized feeding plan.
Initial Visit for Multiples — $250
Follow-Up Lactation Visit — $175
Virtual Lactation Consultation — $100/hour
Self-pay clients may request a superbill to submit to their insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement is not guaranteed.
In-Home Travel Fee
In-home visits are generally available within approximately 15 miles of my Lafayette office.
Travel fee: $50 per in-home visit
Travel fees are separate from the cost of the lactation visit and are not covered by insurance.
Need support farther away? Extended travel may be available depending on distance and scheduling. Additional travel fees may apply.
There is no travel fee for office or virtual visits.
